Brooklyn City Schools has begun the process of district-wide strategic planning during the second semester. It began with a large stakeholder meeting in the BHS cafeteria where over 50 parents, students, staff members and community members attended. After that meeting, many stakeholders held listening sessions around the community to gather feedback pertaining to what the school district is doing well and what it can improve upon in the future. This information was brought to a one-day retreat in City Council chambers with over 30 stakeholders. From that retreat proposed District vision, mission, beliefs and areas of focus were developed. The stakeholders at the retreat mapped out 5 areas of focus for subcommittee work: Teaching & Learning, Communications, Finances/Facilities, Safety and Discipline, and School and Community Pride. These subcommittees will begin meeting in April to create goals for their particular areas to help drive the mission and vision of Brooklyn City Schools. If you have an interest or area of strength in one of these areas, the committees would love to have you included in this important work. Please contact the Brooklyn Board of Education Office and talk to Mrs. Laura Baker at 216-485-8100 to express your interest in joining a focus group committee.
