Brooklyn City Schools Participates in Ohio's Next Generation Assessments Spring Field Tests
Field Tests: Student Answers will Help, but Not be Scored
This spring, our schools are participating in an opportunity to shape Ohio’s Next Generation of Assessments, or state tests.
Ohio is developing computer-based state tests for the 2014-2015 school year. The tests will be in math, reading, writing, science and social studies. These high-quality tests will measure our students’ knowledge, as well as skills like critical thinking, problem-solving and using information to form responses to questions.
Before all Ohio schools can begin using the tests next school year, we must field-test them this year. The field tests let our state try out test questions and make sure all questions truly match the subjects they cover. This is vital for Ohio to build the best tests possible.
Throughout April and May, Brooklyn City Schools will have students participate in the computer-based field tests.
- 3rd Grade: English Langauge Arts (ELA)
- 4th & 6th Grades: Social Studies
- 7th Grade: Math
- 8th Grade: English Langauge Arts (ELA)
- 5th, 9th & 10th Grades: Science
While there are no student scores, it is very important for parents and families to encourage their students to do their best when answering the questions. By taking part in the field tests, our district will help make sure that all Ohio students take the best and fairest tests possible.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you might have about the field tests.
Ohio's Next Generation Assessments
Ohio’s Next Generation Assessments will measure whether students are meeting expectations in the new learning standards to be ready for college and careers in the 21st century. The new state assessments for 2014-2015 are computer-based and will require students to demonstrate knowledge through the skills of critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration.
