English IIIB: Persuasion/Argumentative Writing

Students will learn critical thinking skills (evidence based learning) and the interpersonal communication skills of persuasion and rhetoric. Students will write a variety of argumentative and persuasive essays using evidence with credible speakers and proper APA citation. Class readings tend to be nonfictional, reporter-based articles from major newspapers and media outlets. Class novels include George Orwell's 1984 (focusing on fear appeals vs evidence) and Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest (focusing on satirical writing and persuasive social commentary).
