Principal's Message
Dear Brooklyn Middle School Families:
It's hard to believe the 4th quarter is upon us! I am continually amazed at the progress that our student's make daily! As I visit classrooms, I continuously see our students working to their fullest! As always, thank you for you continued support and dedication!
Upon receiving this newsletter, we will be on the final countdown to this year’s Ohio Achievement Tests. This past summer you should have received your child’s individual Ohio Achievement Test scores within each subject area from the previous school year. There is a multitude of information you can derive from these scores. However, a score of 400 or more indicates that your child has passed that portion of the Ohio Achievement Test. The testing breakdown for this school year is as follows:
5th Grade – Math, Reading and Science
6th Grade – Math and Reading
7th Grade – Math and Reading
Using the following suggestions as a starting point, please encourage your child to do his or her best on these important examinations! Our goal is to make sure each student receives a score of 400 or higher on each test taken this spring!
Help your child sharpen his or her test-taking skills by encouraging the following test taking strategies:
#1 Encourage your child to budget their time. Teach them to estimate how much time they should spend on each question. For example, how many questions should they have completed by the halfway mark?
#2 Encourage your child to read the entire question and all of the answers. Sometimes the correct answer clearly stands out.Other times, students may have to reread. One misunderstood word can throw off the whole question.
#3 Encourage your child to check their work during the test. Sometimes students are just glad that they’ve finished the test! But if they find themselves with a few extra minutes, your child should go back and check their answers.
#4 Encourage your child to get a good night’s sleep.
#5 Encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast.
#6 Encourage your child to stay positive during the test.
#7 Reinforce to your child that the Ohio Achievement Tests are an important part of their education.
