Welcome to the Pupil Services Web Page!

Every student is unique and has special learning styles.  It is our goal to facilitate the educational process helping students become contributing adults. The department supports the following areas:  Preschool, Special Education, Attendance, Student records and Student Registration, including students who are homeless or in foster care.

Child Find

Child Find is the process of identifying, locating and evaluating all children from age three to twenty-one who may have a disability and be in need of special education and related services, regardless of the severity of the disability. The district seeks to identify all children in the Brooklyn City School District who attend a public or non-public school in the district or who are homeless or wards of the state who may be in need of special education and related services.

A child with a disability is a child having a cognitive disability, hearing impairment, visual impairment, speech or language impairment, serious emotional disturbance, orthopedic impairment, autism, traumatic brain injury, other health impairment, specific learning disability, deaf-blindness, or multiple disabilities.

Parents, relatives, and concerned citizens are asked to assist the Brooklyn City School District find any child who may have a disability and need special education and related services. If you are aware of a child who may have special needs, please notify the Department of Pupil Services for Brooklyn City Schools at 216-485-8136.

Transition for Students with Disabilities
For children with disabilities in Ohio, educators have the opportunity each year to engage the student and family in planning for the child's future. Beginning no later than a child’s fourteenth birthday, this includes conversations and discussions which identify supports and experiences for a student to transition to adult life. These conversations are focused on postsecondary education, employment and independent living. Age Appropriate Transition Assessments (AATAs) aid in identifying students’ strengths, needs and interests to aid in planning. The Brooklyn High School and Intermediate Special Education Staffs developed two transition graphics to facilitate discussions with students and parents.
