Brooklyn Schools Recognized as Distinguished District for Project Lead the Way Programs

PLTW Distinguished District Award

Brooklyn City Schools has been recognized as a 2018-2019 Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Distinguished District for demonstrating a commitment to increasing student access, engagement and achievement in its middle school level PLTW programs.  In partnership with Polaris Career Center, the District offers STEM-BASED programs for students in grades 7-8.  Examples include Automation & Robotics which provides students the opportunity to design, build and program real-world projects using the VEX Robotics® platform, and Medical Detectives, which involves analyzing DNA evidence to solve medical problems through hands-on projects and labs.  Project Lead the Way is a non-profit organization that provides engaging educational programs which help students develop and strengthen critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and communication skills.  This important goal is accomplished through the program’s activity, project and problem-based curriculum which encourages students to work together to find original solutions to real-world problems.  The Brooklyn City Schools are extremely proud of this exemplary honor and wish to thank Polaris Career Center for partnering with the District to provide our students access to effective and empowering learning opportunities.
