Brooklyn 4th Grade Teachers Support Emotional Needs of Students During Extended Closure

Brooklyn 4th grade teacher shows support

During the 2019-20 school year, the 4th grade team has put a lot of time and effort into creating and implementing a social emotional foundation for students. The 4th grade team includes Adrienne Maysey, Lisa Kubinski, Laura Mills, Dana Burtzlaff, and Patrick Yarman. With the transition to remote learning, the 4th grade team faced a major challenge on how to continue to support the emotional needs of students during these challenging times. Through video conferencing, 4th grade students are offer offered multiple opportunities each week to meet with their teacher and peers. This occurs in addition to online instruction. The online sessions offer an opportunity for students and teachers to share stories about how their week is going, play games, share jokes, and answer questions. Some of their favorite activities are scavenger hunts and dance parties. Students especially love the opportunity to share their pets with the class. Through it all, the 4th grade team at Brooklyn School has stayed connected with perseverance and a commitment to supporting each other.
