The Brooklyn City Schools formally welcomes Mr. Michael Becker as the Director of Alternative Education and Athletics at the start of the 2021-22 school year. As part of his dual administrative roles, Mr. Becker will oversee the recently launched Brooklyn Digital Learning Academy, a hybrid learning option featuring both in-person and remote learning formats. Additionally, Mr. Becker will assume responsibility for coordinating and growing the District’s athletic program, replacing Mr. Jim Verba, who is transitioning back to the classroom in the fall of 2021. The Brooklyn City Schools thanks Mr. Verba for his hard work and dedication on behalf of our students and staff.
Currently a Principal for Constellation Schools, Mr. Becker has served in a variety of roles during his 17-year career, including, classroom teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and athletic director. Mr. Becker is passionate about building positive relationships and providing the best possible educational and athletic experience for students. During the 2021-22 school year, Mr. Becker looks forward to interacting with students and staff, helping to grow the Brooklyn Digital Learning Academy, increasing participation in the athletic program, and instilling Hurricane PRIDE in our schools and community. In the coming weeks, the District plans to hold a “Virtual Community Meet and Greet” to provide students, staff, and families an opportunity to meet Mr. Becker. On behalf of everyone in the Brooklyn City Schools, please welcome Mr. Michael Becker as the newest member of Hurricane Nation!
