Community Mural Complete!

Community Mural at corner of Ridge and Brookpark Roads

Students from Brooklyn High School put the finishing touches on an impressive community mural on the retaining wall located at the corner of Ridge Road and Brookpark Road on Thursday, May 27, 2021. The mural was completed by thirteen students from the school’s Mural Class and National Art Honors Society chapter under the direction of Art Instructor Mr. Chris Kaspar. Planning and design work on the project began last school year and extended through the fall of 2020, with actual mural production beginning in May 2021. Students worked on the mural several times per week during class time and volunteering their own time until 3:00 p.m. This exciting community beautification project was made possible through the support of several public, private, and non-profit entities. As an affiliated community with Keep America Beautiful and the related Keep Ohio Beautiful, both non-profits dedicated to improving and beautifying communities, the City of Brooklyn partnered with Sherwin-Williams, which generously helped to fix and prime the wall and donate all paint supplies. Through the students’ talented efforts, the retaining wall now features a rendering of Pete’s Wayside Inn, a historic landmark formerly located at site, along with “Brooklyn” in hand-painted script and the District’s iconic hurricane logo.

A special thank-you to Brooklyn City Council Pro-Tem and Keep Brooklyn Beautiful director, Andy Celcherts and Sherwin-Williams for their support of the mural project. The District would like to also recognize the efforts of Chris Kaspar for developing the mural class and providing our students a wonderful learning and artistic opportunity. Finally, congratulations to the students listed below on their artistry and efforts in creating the community mural and leaving a visible example of positivity and community pride that will endure for generations to come!
