Brooklyn Students Support Local Heroes During Walk to School Day

Brooklyn students demonstrated their appreciation for local safety forces by participating in a community walk on Wednesday morning, May 11, 2022. As part of the event’s theme of Let’s Go for a Walk with a Hero, participating students were encouraged to wear red, white, and blue apparel and meet at one of three community locations, including Marquardt Park, Brooklyn Recreation Department, and Brock Park. Students, family members, and district staff were joined by members from the Brooklyn Fire and Police Departments as they walked from each meeting point to school. The Walk to School Day event was part of the 2022 Walk/Bike to School Week celebration sponsored by the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School program. This year’s theme is “Walking and Biking in Kindness,” and during each day of the week-long program, students are encouraged to walk or bike to school and participate in a variety of activities while demonstrating kindness to themselves, friends, parents, teachers, and safety forces.
