Issue 4 Renewal Levy Informational Night and Finance Forum

The Brooklyn City Schools hosted a Renewal Levy Informational Night and Finance Forum during the evening on Tuesday, September 27th in the Brooklyn Auditorium. Parents, district staff, members of the Board of Education and community members were in attendance for the presentation. Superintendent Caleris began the program by providing a detailed summary of Issue 4, a Renewal Levy on the November 8, 2022, ballot that will not raise taxes. Issue 4 will renew an existing five-year levy originally approved in 2013, and last renewed in May of 2018. The Brooklyn Board of Education passed a resolution at the May 17, 2022, board meeting to place a renewal of the existing levy on the November 2022 ballot to raise the amount of $2,254,000 each calendar year for a period of five years for the purpose of avoiding an operating deficit.

The program also included a Finance Forum led by Treasurer Aholt who provided a review of the district’s current Five-Year Forecast. Superintendent Caleris followed with a review of key investments and educational programming completed by the district since 2020. The evening ended with those in attendance given the opportunity to engage in a Question-and-Answer Session regarding Issue 4 with Superintendent Caleris and Treasurer Aholt. The Brooklyn City Schools community can learn more about Issue 4, the current Five-Year Forecast, and other important information shared at the Levy Informational Night and Finance Forum by viewing the following slide presentation.
